That about covers it. Here’s my upcoming week:
Monday
Open with a five-minute M.U.G. Shot (Mechanics, Usage, Grammar) mini-lecture/bell-ringer.
Review answers from this past weekend’s S.A.T. practice section homework.
Present my Prezi lecture on Katniss Everdeen, A Modern Theseus. (We finished reading the Theseus myth late last week as part of this unit on Greek mythology and ran out of time to discuss this connection.)
Together, read “Perseus” and complete a notesheet.
HW: Finish the “Perseus” notesheet, if not done in class, and make flashcards. Bundle the work for all of the myths we’ve covered together for the Mythology Binder assignment, which is due tomorrow. Remind students to be prepared for tomorrow’s end-of-unit exam.
Tuesday
Collect Mythology Binders. For fun, view two short clips of Perseus battling Medusa, one from Percy Jackson and one from Clash of the Titans.
Give the end-of-unit exam on Greek mythology.
For HW, students should continue reading their S.S.R. books.
Wednesday
Open with a ten-minute Words on Wednesday vocabulary mini-lecture/bell-ringer.
Present Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s Journey, using this free Prezi resource.
Assign students to connect a popular modern film (everything fron Kung-Fu Panda to Legally Blonde works for this) to the steps of the Hero’s Journey.
For HW, students will finish their film grids, if not done in class.
Thursday
Give a 20-min. lecture on the Trojan War, providing background knowledge students need to know to understand The Odyssey.
Check out copies of The Odyssey and begin reading Book 1 aloud to the class.
Toward the end of the hour, complete a 20Time exit ticket, explaining their plan for tomorrow’s work time.
For HW, students will finish reading Book 1 and complete study questions to help them keep track of their reading, due on Monday. They also need to remember to bring their 20Time materials to class tomorrow.
Friday
In-class work session for our 20Time projects.
For HW, students need to finish reading Book 1 of The Odyssey (if they haven’t already done so), answer their study questions, and complete an Analogies worksheet. All will be discussed on Monday.
That’s it for this time. Now, where’s my coffee cup? I’m gonna need a little more caffeine to get this Saturday started. Teach on, everyone!
