After reading the section about Penelope’s test of the bow from The Odyssey this week, one of my freshmen came up after class and said, “That’s just like on that movie intro!”
I had no idea what he was talking about, so he went on to explain that his recent trip to see The Martian had a Homeric tie-in, as film distributor TSG Entertainment uses Penelope’s test as part of its logo.
Handing his phone to me, I turned giddy as we watched this:
Way to keep classic lit alive, TSG! This company (I’ve since learned) also helped finance several other recent film adaptations of great books, including The Maze Runner, Gone Girl, and The Fault in Our Stars. Is it possible to have a crush on a film distributor? Apparently, the answer is yes.
Teach on, everyone!
