She Did It – Goal Accomplished!

Just a quick note of thanks to everyone who contributed to my daughter’s fundraising campaign. Back in January, she had the idea to replace two sets of sad, broken books in her middle school classroom with new copies. This week, those books arrived and were delivered to an incredibly grateful classroom.

While the politics of school funding for book replacement is an important issue to research, my daughter was more interested in just solving the problem. And that’s where you (and her large, loving extended family) came into play.

In just a few weeks, she was able to raise the funds and get those books delivered. Along the way, she also discovered some new Adobe software tricks, wrote many drafts of the persuasive text for her Go Fund Me page, learned to harness the power of social media, and made some kids and their teacher very, very happy. My daughter said the whole class broke into applause when she presented the books and three kids even came up to hug her after class.

We’re calling this a win.

Her idea sort of morphed into an unofficial mini-20Time experience, so this feels like the right time for a status report of my own much more selfish spring semester passion project. As you may recall from my previous post, this year I’m trying to do a pull-up – a small goal that’s become a mental mountain. I’ve been running again (my knees aren’t happy about it) and lifting weights three times a week. I’m definitely stronger but still can’t pull my chin up to that (curse-word deleted) bar. It is so hard.

Luckily, I still have a month and a half before my deadline. Failure seems inevitable, but I’m trying to not give those doubts too much headspace. Instead, I blast motivational speeches in my earbuds while I pretend to know what I’m doing on the scary side of the gym and this slide, my latest screensaver, stares at me while I’m at work:

That’s all for now. Teach on, everyone, and stay strong!
