Advice to Help Land a Teaching Job

Today, let’s go back to a conversation I had 25 years ago with my college career counselor. Was he right?

Okay, teacher friends, I want to know any/all of the following:

• What are you currently teaching?
• What subject do you wish you could teach?
• What would be your worst subject to teach?
• New teachers, what are today’s requirements to earn your credential?

Out here in Ohio: it would be awesome to be able to just take a test, pass it, and be able to teach it, but you have to have a certain number of credentials in order to do that. Unfortunately for me, ELA is all I’ll be able to teach in Ohio. I can’t even reach reading classes at the lower level and take a Foundations of Reading exam because of how weird the state is about credential hours. 🙁

  2. Oof, Paige. Looks like Ohio’s off my list of future home-states.
