When I started this blog in June, I wasn’t really sure what I was getting myself into. I figured I’d post a few ideas during summer vacation and then ignore it/run out of time to feed it once school started. As it turns out, this blog has become my favorite distraction – it satisfies my itch to write (in a former life, I was a newspaper reporter and editor) and it’s brought a bevy of awesome new teacher friends who’ve messaged me directly with questions and ideas.
After mulling things over (and at the urging of a few of those new contacts), I’ve decided to open the comment sections on most posts, past and future. I’m a bit worried that I won’t have time to moderate/fully participate in discussions, so I have two favors to ask:
1. Be nice. There’s a ton of negativity out there in the world surrounding education topics, but this blog will remain an oasis of motivation and support for all of us workaday teachers in the trenches. If your comment isn’t something you’d say to my (or anyone’s else) face, then don’t say it. Golden Rule time, okay? And remember, lemon cookies are way easier to swallow than sour grapes.
2. Give me grace. I’m a full-time teacher and mom of two, just doing the best I can each day. I’ll try my hardest to respond and engage in the dialogue, but sometimes I just need to walk away from the laptop. You know that feeling, right?
