It’s still three l-o-n-g weeks until spring break, so my classes are in that hunker-down-and-work mode. We’re in the middle of The Odyssey, the middle of our 20Time work sessions, and the middle of the semester. Basically, there’s not much happening around here but work.
This week’s agenda:
Monday
Open with a five-minute M.U.G. Shot (Mechanics, Usage, Grammar) mini-lecture/bell-ringer.
Give a one-question quizzer on Book 12 of The Odyssey, which students were assigned to finish reading this weekend.
Review Book 12 as a full class and view the Skylla and Kharybis video clip from the 1997 mini-series.
Complete a chart/graphic organizer of Odysseus’ adventures from when he leaves Troy to when he arrives in Ithaka. And, yes, this is the day we’ll rock Pandora’s Bellydancing Channel.
For HW, students will finish their charts, which they can use as study support materials for the end-of-unit exam.
Tuesday
Review chart order/answers and discuss Books 1-12 in small groups.
Begin reading Books 17 and 18 aloud with the class.
For HW, students will finish reading Books 17 and 18.
Wednesday
Open with a ten-minute Words on Wednesday vocabulary mini-lecture/bell-ringer.
Teams of two complete a brief analysis of Odysseus, providing evidence of how he’s changed into a more-heroic figure, and then we’ll wrap this up with a full-class discussion.
Character Obituary for Antikleia, Agamemnon, Elpenor, or Argos.
Complete 20Time planning session exit tickets.
If time allows, begin reading Books 19 and 20 of The Odyssey. If we run out of time, this will be out-of-class reading due Monday.
For HW, they’ll finish the character obit, if not completed in class. Students should also read their S.S.R. books because their third-quarter S.S.R. book talks are due next week. Also, they need to remember to bring their 20Time materials for tomorrow’s work session.
Thursday
In-class work session for our 20Time projects.
For HW, students only need to remember to bring their S.S.R. books to class.
Friday
In-class reading time of S.S.R. books.
For HW, students will complete a practice S.A.T. section, finish reading Books 19-20, and prepare for their end-of-quarter S.S.R. book talks.
