Grading Hacks Episode #5

As promised, today I’ll attempt a better explanation of the writing contest I use with my classes. Today also marks the conclusion of my Grading Hacks series and, sadly, the end of summer. I plan to make more videos as the school year unfolds, but they’ll be far less frequent. Time, as you know, is no longer a friend.

Hi Laura, I just found out last week that I’m teaching junior English (in addition to my 6th and 8th graders–small school). Thank goodness I found your materials on TpT and watched this video and found your blog! You have positive energy and give me HOPE to survive this year and beyond!! Now I’m off to watch your other videos. I’ve purchased a few of your units – love how you make the classics fun and relevant for your students…and I am going to purchase your American Lit overviews too. Keep up the great work and encouragement! Have a great school year!

Aw, thanks for this vote of confidence, Amy! I’m so glad you found me. Juniors are amazing and I have no doubt you will fall in love with them. Don’t hesitate to check in as questions or concerns arise this year. The blog is always here when you need it! 🙂

When you announce the people who will move onto round 2, is it still with the numbers or do you reveal names?

Great question, Julie! For both of the big reveals, I use the students’ names and there’s always much celebration/applause in the room. 🙂
