It’s a big week in Room H-9, as Odysseus has arrived home to Ithaka and I’m in the home stretch of my 20Time project. Hooray!
This week’s agenda:
Monday
Open with a five-minute M.U.G. Shot (Mechanics, Usage, Grammar) mini-lecture/bell-ringer.
Review answers to this past weekend’s S.A.T. practice section, which students should have completed as HW.
Give a one-question quizzer on Books 19 and 20 of The Odyssey, which students were assigned to finish reading this weekend.
In Quarter Trio groups, students will analyze Penelope’s dream and the character of Philoitios’ from Books 19 and 20. Then, we’ll review those answers with a full class discussion of these questions.
Depending on the time available, we’ll watch a short clip from the mini-series.
For HW, students will read Book 21. Also, S.S.R. Book Talks are due for one-third of my students by the end-of-lunch on Tuesday.
Tuesday
Give a one-question quizzer on Book 21.
Individually, students will complete an in-class writing assignment about the test of the bow, analyzing the speeches made by Eurymakhos, Leodes, and Penelope.
For HW, students in the second S.S.R. Book Talks deadline group need to be ready, as their books are due to me by the end-of-lunch on Wednesday.
Wednesday
Open with a ten-minute Words on Wednesday vocabulary mini-lecture/bell-ringer.
Read Book 22 aloud to my classes. (Yes, this is the BIG moment where Odysseus takes revenge on the suitors – and it is gnarly.)
Complete 20Time planning session exit tickets.
For HW, S.S.R. Book Talks are due for the final third of my students by the end-of-lunch on Thursday. Also, they need to remember to bring their 20Time materials for tomorrow’s work session. Finally, they need to read Book 23 by Monday.
Thursday
In-class work session for our 20Time projects.
For HW, students only need to remember to bring their new S.S.R. books to class.
Friday
In-class reading time of S.S.R. books.
For HW, students will complete an Analogies worksheet and finish reading Book 23 (our final one) from The Odyssey.
